Showcase Features: This professionally designed garden showcases a beautiful collaboration between the owners and the designer. The clay soil was amended and a rock retaining wall was added to improve drainage and create small pockets of different habitats. Now, different natives including coyote mint, penstemon, yarrow, monkey flower, and more add color year round. In the shade, currants, yerba buena, and other shade loving natives have already grown quite large even though the garden was installed in November 2022. Several maples that were in the garden before add some color and work well with the natives. The owner has added small pockets of succulent habitats with interesting specimens from all over the world, protected from the squirrels by gravel mulch. This harmony of the old and new, native and other plants add interest and color.
Other Garden Attractions: Three flagstone paths lead to a small flagstone patio where the owners like to sit and have their morning coffee and watch the birds. A large log, the last remnant of a city tree that had to be cut down, offers a second sitting area.
Gardening for Wildlife: The seeds of the different natives and the pedestal bird bath with the bubbling solar fountain attract many birds to the garden.
❀ Plants Available: From 10AM-1PM, a Wildflower Ambassador will be present in that garden. Free wildflower seeds will be available while supplies last.
